Hello! Just a hello to all ... gee, doesn't anyone look at this site anymore?? Do you all realize 2010 is next year ... our 30th reunion! Looking forward to seeing many again! Who's planning? Need help? We should start sending suggestions into this site for ideas on what we'd like to do. Let's see . . . it's 11:30 pm on a Saturday night and I'm just "googling" stuff on the internet. Have my earphones on listening to my ITunes, drinking a glass of wine. See nothing's changed in my life! :) My pet rabbit, Ruffles, is nugging my foot for pets. Jeff (husband) is here and Jennifer (14 year old daughter is fighting going to bed, as usual)! Life's been good, but interesting. Jeff and I actually are working in Wisconsin now - own an indoor advertising business across Western WI and very strange to now be running into business owners that are connected to RL. Still live in MN, so been putting lots of miles on the car! But it's been good. Funny! "Draggin the Line" by Tommy James just came on my IPod . . . my memory of this song is skating at Rainbow Gardens. Everyone could do the 2-step skate but me! Another memory of that place from 8th grade was skating the "moonlight" skate with Mark Daniels - yes, holding hands. My dad walked in to pick me up and I about died. So shy! :) Would be fun to hear from others on memories like this. I have so many. We had it good in RL didn't we!?!?! Jean Smatlak (Brown)

Having fun looking at photos, comments and the video on this great website. Hard to believe that next year will be 30 years, and I'm still here in Rice Lake. I'm still self employed, but have went from telecommunications to inspections and property maintenance. Would like to hear from anyone. Looking forward to next years reunion.

Good to see some comments coming in, I'm having a phone conversation with my supervisor and would rather read what my classmates have to say than talk to him. Just bought an Ipod to use when I go to the gym, and just like Jean, mine is loaded up with the same things I listened to in high school. My wife and I went to St. Paul in January to see AC/DC in concert. Talk about fun. Hope all is well with everyone. 2010 is coming quickly. Joe.

Hey Joe! I was at that AC/DC concert, too! We probably sat next to each other and didn't know it! It was a good concert, wasn't it! Jean

Joe and Jean, I'm jealous, I have not got to see AC/DC live yet. My last couple concerts have been Def Leppard, I have been a fan since '83 and seen them 7 times. Joe, I hear you're no longer pushing coke, and are an inspector. I've been an inspector for going on 3- 1/2 years, mostly work with mortgage companies. I was telling my wife that many of our classmates still live in the area, not a bad place to be. I was driving by V&M and they are putting in camp sites. If anyone is looking for something fun to do, the Stardust Drive-in movie theater is planning to open this season on April 17th. It is owned by a long time friend, and I helped build every bit of it. Lots of work, but is well worth the effort. They are between Cameron and Chetek just off Hwy SS and Cty OO. I, for one spent many nights at the Rice Lake Drive-in. Hope to hear from more of you, and what you're up to these days. Check website- WWW.stardustdriveinmovie.com

Hey Jean, I think I was at Rainbow Gardens that day!! I remember the place well. I check in on this site every now and then, never much happening. I was surprised to see recent comments. I'm still hanging out at home here in La Crosse with Todd (hubby) daughters Emily (8) and Katie (4). Yesterday we were reminiscing that it had been seven years to the day since bringing Emily home...seems like only yesterday. Katie, my valentines day baby, has been home now for three years. We have no immediate plans to travel back to China...I'm getting too darn old!! I don't get back to Rice Lake much, but am planning on Aquafest this summer. Maybe will see some of you out and about. Take care everyone.

A note about Mike Breeden. His full obituary is on the O'Connell Family Funeral Home website. I really liked one qoute from the obituary, "He lived life fast with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes" Thats the Mike many of us remember. There is a good current photo of Mike on the obituary. I plan to bring write-up to the Chronotype, and get it in our listings. Thank You Joe for also remembering Mike, I don't always hear the local news or read the paper. I googled Mike to find out more info. Happy mothers day to all the mom's out there.

Don't know if previous post worked-Does anyone know where Diane Gueckenberg (guttenberg, spelling?) is. I know she was in High School but may have moved prior to 1980.

Just writing to let everyone know about the mini class reunion last night at the Barron Farmers Market. First off, since all the people that I saw last night were female classmates, I apologize for using your maiden names, but that is the way I will always remember you. To start the night off, I got to speak with Perri Rohde, who I haven't seen in many, many years. Of course after you see someone at an event, you are going to bump unto them about 3 or 4 more times while you are there. Said "Hi" to Kathy Quinn while I was leaving and I think she was just arriving. I also saw, but did not get to talk with someone I'm pretty confident was Paula Vaughn; I didn't get close enough, but it had to be, even saw the Silpada jewelry (yes Paula, I know what Silpada jewelry is, my wife buys it by the truckload from a lady here in Barron). So I was just thinking, if 30 years ago we had been sitting around and said, "See you in a few years at the Farmers Market." I would have had 2 questions; A) What is a Farmers Market? and B) Why would I go to one? Just glad I did last night. Hope everyone has a safe Labor Day weekend. Joe.

RLHS Class of 80 Classmates: Although this is hard to believe, it is the 30th Anniversary of our 1979 State Football Championship! A group of players and coaches will take part in the Homecoming festivities this Friday, September 25 at RLHS. Please join in the fun! Come to the Homecoming Parade, which starts at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, September 25 (and goes down Wisconsin Avenue from Stout Street to Carson Street), and wave at the guys as they walk by. Then come to the cookout put on by the Booster Club at the new concession stand area and socialize with everyone. Next, cheer on your 79 State Champs as they are introduced on the new football field before the game (approximate time: 6:30-6:45 p.m.)! Then stay for the game, enjoy the new stadium, and cheer on the current Rice Lake Warriors! Hope to see you there! “We are the Champions” ~ Queen

Some of you may have seen this message in an e-mail and if so, I appologize. I want to get the word out to as many 1980 graduates as I can. As many of you know the class of 80 has decided to raise some cash to donate to the rlhs for the finishing touches on the new stadium at the high school. Bleacher seats for the new stadium(pictures coming soon for those of you that haven't seen it yet) are being "sold" at a cost of $250 per seat to cover some of the costs of the stadium and track and field equipment. What we get for the $250 is our named engraved in the seat. (we are not guaranteed to sit there). The 79 state champs have $230 for one and the class of 1980 has $390 towards 2 seats. If we could collect another $130 in chunks of as little or as much as you like we could get these seats engraved possibly yet this fall. $10 was the suggested donation and that seemed to go well. Some have given more and some less. If you would like to contribute to this please send a check as soon as it is convenient to: Linda Olund Kiehl at 1100 Augusta st. RL WI 54868. We would like to get this sent in in the next week or 2 at the latest. That would be super! You have no idea how much time and effort Linda has put into keeping stuff together and I can say that I really appreciate her for all she has done to keep things together for our class. Also, I am sure you all have gotten the "save the date" post cards in the mail for out class reunion. If anybody would like to help in the planning and coordinating of the reunion, the help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know here if you are willing and able to help and I will pass that on to Linda. She and a few others have quite graciously taken on the huge task of getting every address possible for all of our classmates and got the cards out. Our class continues to stay closer than most thanks to the hard work of many. Just in case you lost the card, the date is July 31 2010. If you have any questions, please e-mail me. Have a great week, Ted
